Zappacosta is undeniably one of Canada's premier songwriters and performers, with JUNOs, million sellers, a string of chart topping hits to his credit and a recording and acting career that has spanned over 30 years. Born in the small town of Sora, Italy (an hour south of Rome), Zappacosta immigrated to Canada with his parents when he was six months old. Deciding upon a music career in his teens, Zappacosta at first set his sights upon being a guitarist –until his vocal prowess and song writing skills were uncovered. His legacy of hits brought him to the world's attention. "Start Again”, “When I Fall in Love Again” and “Nothing Can Stand In Your Way” became staples on adult contemporary radio. Zappacosta became a Rock Star.
In 1987, Walt Disney's Danger Bay producer approached Zappacosta with a script written specifically for him. The episode "Rock Star" catapulted Zappacosta to a new kind of fame in acting. In the same year, he penned "Overload", which was written and performed exclusively for the multi-platinum soundtrack "Dirty Dancing" and Loverboy recorded Zappacosta's "That's Where The Money Goes" for their Wildside album. In 1988, he was awarded two JUNO’s for "Album of The Year “and “Most Promising Artist”, an American Music Award for "Most Popular Album of The Year" and a Canadian Publishers Music Association's "Best Rock Star"
As an artist, Zappacosta continued to evolve. The hit songs were originally written for acoustic and jazz presentations. Writing for radio began to rub against his musical integrity and he became frustrated with the demands of music trends. In 1996, Zappacosta broke from the stereotype and began to write the lyrics and melodies that were authentically him. His recordings since 1996 reflect his mastery at romance, heartfelt lyrics and his advanced knowledge of music. Zappacosta has redefined the live concert experience with intimate and intense showcases. His performances deliver a blend of acoustic, jazz and pop music that hits your heart with the words and your head with soaring melodies.
And the hits that brought Zappacosta to the world's attention, including Nothing Can Stand in Your Way, Passion, When I Fall in Love Again, We Should Be Lovers and Start Again - Zappacosta hasn't turned his back on any of these songs. They are high-quality and fit perfectly into his new music and arrangements. Zappacosta's latest CD and DVD, Live From Blue Frog Studios captures a recording in front of an intimate audience with his great band finding the heart and soul of his classics and new material. It's a confirmation of Zappacosta’s decisions and directions and showcases him making some of the most dynamic music of his career. No trends, no hype -This is pure music, pure art…pure Zappacosta.

"Consistently the best thing on stage" By COLIN MACLEAN, EDMONTON SUN
The show begins with the narrator, a fellow named Che, coming to Evita's funeral. Great way to start because Che is Alfie Zappacosta, who is everything the role demands and then some. The onetime rocker is in complete control of his character, pumping needed charisma into the production every time he is on stage - which is, luckily, for most of the show. Sardonic yet jaunty, and blessed with a strong, lilting voice, he is consistently the best thing on stage. Zappacosta portrayed Che in Halifax in 1985 and in Edmonton in 2002

Zappa-cameo in Canada, eh! By MIKE ROSS, EDMONTON SUN
Again we get to ask the age-old question: What's it all about, Alfie? "I get to be me," says Alfie Zappacosta on his latest musical theatre role in Only in Canada, Eh?, opening tonight at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre. It's a musical revue of all things Canadian - a rich lode of classic material, as it turns out - and "I'm doing Alfie Zappacosta songs," says Alfie Zappacosta. So it's not like he has any tough lines to memorize as he did when he played the Main Dude in Jesus Christ Superstar. He just has to bone up on some of his own hits, like Passion and We Should Be Lovers, updates of which can be heard on his latest CD, Start Again. He is, of course, part of the "all things Canadian" theme. The role in the show is called a "cameo" as he's the only actual pop star singing his own material. The rest will be handled by a squad of impersonators.

"You can't get a ticket for love or money," said a beaming artistic director Ron Ulrich in Neptune's lobby - The Halifax Herald
As Christ, Alfie Zappacosta treads the thinnest of lines between over-doing and under doing it. In the first act he all but sleep-walks through the role with an expression of profound melancholy on his face, except for his angry scourging of the moneylenders out of the temple. His songs are delivered softly and sweetly as though the effort of restraining his emotion exhausted him. In the second act he skillfully jacks up the ante, powerfully portraying his sense of betrayal in the Last Supper, his fear of death in the Garden of Gethsemane and his final agony as he is whipped and scorned and crucified.
